Let \(p(x)=2x^4+3x^3+4x^2-8x\).
(a) Find the quotient when \(p(x)\) is divided by \(2x+3\), and show that the remainder is 21. [3]
The curve \(y=p(x)-21\) crosses the \(x\)-axis at \((\alpha,0)\) and \((\beta,0)\), as shown.
(b) State \(\alpha\), and show that \(\beta\) satisfies \(x=\sqrt[3]{7-2x}\). [2]
(c) Show by calculation that \(1.5<\beta<1.6\). [2]
(d) Use an iterative formula based on (b) to find \(\beta\) to 4 significant figures. Give each iteration to 6 significant figures. [3]
