Two carts move right at \(\displaystyle \frac{10m}{s}\) on a horizontal track, joined by a light rigid horizontal rod. The front cart has mass 10 kg and the rear cart 7 kg. A brake on the front cart exerts 27 N left. The rear cart has constant resistance 7 N left; there is no other horizontal resistance. The rod remains attached until the first stop.

  1. Find the positive deceleration magnitude in \(\displaystyle \frac{m}{s^{2}}\). Explain your reasoning. [2]
  2. Find the rod force and justify whether it is tension or compression. [3]
  3. Find the magnitude of the resultant force on the front cart in N. Explain your reasoning. [2]
