On a smooth horizontal line, A is to the left of B. A has mass 3 kg and moves right at \(\displaystyle \frac{7m}{s}\); B has mass 5 kg and moves left at \(\displaystyle \frac{6m}{s}\). They collide directly and coalesce. External forces make a negligible change to their total momentum during impact. Take right as positive.

  1. Find the common final velocity and state the resulting motion. [3]
  2. Find the total momentum and total kinetic energy immediately before impact. [3]
  3. Find the kinetic energy lost in J. Explain your reasoning. [2]
